Color Palette for Home Theater

I was called to create a color palette for a home theater and basement that was part of a renovation in a large home. There would be several rooms in the basement, the home theater and entertainment center, a play room, office, exercise room, and large multi-purpose hallway. The client had chosen the floor tiles for the various spaces and the rest was open for suggestion. The tiles were a neutral taupe color. Although we wanted to stick to that neutral color we also wanted to introduce a little pizazz to liven things up. [...]

Wide Horizontal Stripes

Using wide horizontal stripes in similar colors but different finishes is a great choice to add sophistication and subtle depth and dimension to a room. A client with a bathroom that had old subway like tiles in a creamy yellow color wanted to do something interesting with paint in her bathroom. The trim tile was black. We thought that keeping the color palette for the walls the same as the tiles would enhance the old world feel of the room and create a quiet calm effect. Choosing a color to match the tiles was the hard [...]

A New House

By |2018-12-20T17:25:59+00:00May 20th, 2014|Case Studies, Dining Rooms, Hallways, Living and Family Rooms, Neutral Palette|

This was new construction for a large formal Colonial style house. It had wide crown and floor molding throughout and wainscoting in the entrance hall and dining room. We wanted a unified, bright, crisp, clean look for all the molding throughout the house. We chose Sherwin Williams 7006 Extra White in a semi gloss finish. It is a soft white without any yellow tone. It looks great next to all the colors we chose for the rooms. Upon entering the main hall you saw a beautiful curved staircase. The clients wanted a warm inviting feeling when you came in. This [...]

A Color Palette For a New House (Part IV) More Bathrooms

By |2018-12-21T09:38:34+00:00February 24th, 2014|Bathrooms, Case Studies, Dark Colors, Light Colors, Neutral Palette|

The house I have been discussing has three full baths. I showed the master bath in the last blog. Now I want to talk about the guest bathroom on the first floor and another bathroom on the second floor. The guest bathroom can be entered from the main hallway or through the guest room. From the hallway you can also enter the laundry room which is adjacent to the bathroom. The same floor tiles were used in both rooms so we decided to paint them the same color. Deep Rich Brown [...]

A Color Palette For A New House (Part III)

By |2018-12-21T09:39:23+00:00February 11th, 2014|Accent Colors, Bedrooms, Case Studies, Neutral Palette|

We are now going upstairs to the second floor of the new house where we find the bedrooms, more baths and a home office. As you may recall, this house was being painted before furniture and fabrics were chosen so the palette had to be neutral. The only colors we had to work with were floors and carpeting. The master bedroom suite had a light beige, off white, carpeting and we chose Benjamin Moore 990 Hampshire Taupe for the walls. We also chose window shades in a similar tone. This color has [...]

A Color Palette For A New House (Part II)

By |2018-12-21T09:40:00+00:00January 26th, 2014|Case Studies, Hallways, Light Colors|

In the last blog (Part I) of choosing a color palette for a new house I showed all the colors we used and how the palette was made up of soft and neutral colors that worked together and created a nice harmony. I also talked about the kitchen, living room, dining area, and hall that were all open to each other. We, therefore, chose colors that flowed from room to room in a soft gold color. The entrance hall in the front of the house, the staircase to the upstairs, and the [...]
