A Guest Bedroom and Bath

This lovely new 4 bedroom house had one of the bedrooms designated as a guest bedroom. It was across the hall from a bathroom that was shared with the two other children's bedrooms. In other words the bath would be used by children as well as adults who would be the guests. The clients did not want to create a bath designed for children that looked juvenile but wanted something more sophisticated that would be appropriate for guests as well as their children as they grew older. The furniture in the guest [...]

A New House

This was new construction for a large formal Colonial style house. It had wide crown and floor molding throughout and wainscoting in the entrance hall and dining room. We wanted a unified, bright, crisp, clean look for all the molding throughout the house. We chose Sherwin Williams 7006 Extra White in a semi gloss finish. It is a soft white without any yellow tone. It looks great next to all the colors we chose for the rooms. Upon entering the main hall you saw a beautiful curved staircase. The clients wanted a warm inviting feeling when you came in. This [...]

A Color Palette For a New House (Part IV) More Bathrooms

The house I have been discussing has three full baths. I showed the master bath in the last blog. Now I want to talk about the guest bathroom on the first floor and another bathroom on the second floor. The guest bathroom can be entered from the main hallway or through the guest room. From the hallway you can also enter the laundry room which is adjacent to the bathroom. The same floor tiles were used in both rooms so we decided to paint them the same color. Deep Rich Brown [...]

A Color Palette For A New House (Part III)

We are now going upstairs to the second floor of the new house where we find the bedrooms, more baths and a home office. As you may recall, this house was being painted before furniture and fabrics were chosen so the palette had to be neutral. The only colors we had to work with were floors and carpeting. The master bedroom suite had a light beige, off white, carpeting and we chose Benjamin Moore 990 Hampshire Taupe for the walls. We also chose window shades in a similar tone. This color has [...]

A Color Palette for a New House (Part I)

The clients wanted help in choosing paint colors for a new house under construction so that the contractor could complete it. At the time they contacted me they had not chosen any furniture yet and would wait until after they lived in the house for a while to do that. The kitchen and bathrooms fixtures and cabinetry had been chosen as well as the floors, carpeting, and tiles. My job was to choose a color palette for the house that was warm, inviting, and neutral enough so that whatever furniture would eventually [...]

Black White and Grey

By |2018-12-19T14:45:33-05:00December 9th, 2013|Case Studies, Kitchens, Neutral Palette|

Recently a client called me to help choose colors for a house she just moved into. She hated what was there and needed help. It was a fairly new large modern center hall house. We decided to begin with the kitchen. She was not going to do major renovations for a while. The entrance hall tiles that continued throughout the kitchen were black and white marble. The cabinets and countertops were pure white. The walls had been painted a mauve pink that was awful. (I have included before and after pictures so [...]
