Blue and White Bedroom from Start to Finish

By |2018-12-14T15:23:11+00:00January 24th, 2018|Bedrooms, Case Studies|

Instead of just doing color consulting I helped a client design a blue and white bedroom from start to finish. The space was a big room on the second floor of a private house. We looked at many photos of blue bedrooms mostly on Houzz.com the leading platform for home remodeling and design. What I realized immediately was that my client liked a medium to deep blue with lots of white.

How to choose, frame, and hang art in your home? I was called to do just that with new clients. They had just moved residences, had done quite a bit of decorating, and wanted to give the finishing touches to make the house a home. As an artist I have had much experience choosing, framing, and hanging art and I was thrilled to work on this assignment. We started with the dining room which was decorated with a neutral palette. We first looked at the art the couple owned to see what [...]

Using Gray to Update a Master Bedroom

By |2018-12-19T15:47:02+00:00April 25th, 2017|Bedrooms, Case Studies, Neutral Palette|

A new client called me to help update a master bedroom. The old bedroom was beige and she was tired of it. She wanted to paint and get new carpeting using gray. I told her to choose the carpeting first. There are only so many carpet colors to choose from but a gazillion paint colors. It's much easier trying to pick the right color for the walls after the carpet is chosen. The client went shopping and chose a tweed with a linear pattern. There was a lot of warmth to the [...]

Pale Blue for the Guest Room

A client wanted to paint her guest bedroom and didn't know what to choose. We decided on a pale blue for the guest room. This is how the decision was made. She had dark cherry wood furniture in the room. She wanted to use white linens on the bed. We were going to keep white on all the trim in the room because we had used white trim throughout the house. It was an older house with beautiful wide molding. There was also a chair and ottoman in a deep navy blue in [...]

Long Distance Color Consulting (Part II)

By |2018-12-19T16:11:08+00:00October 4th, 2015|Bathrooms, Bedrooms, Case Studies, Neutral Palette|

In this post I will be discussing "long distance color consulting" that I did for a client building a new house in the Adirondacks. It was too far to travel and we decided to choose colors not on the actual site.  It's a challenge because colors change in different lighting and all the things the client chose like tiles, bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinets, etc. were things I would see only in pictures. She did have a few actual samples of tile for me to see which was very helpful. Part II is the discussion for [...]
