Decorating an Apartment Living Room

A retired couple was downsizing from a large house and asked me to help decorate the living room in an apartment they were renting. They weren't taking any of their old furniture. The apartment came with beige carpeting and was painted an off white, a blank slate. After discussing their entertaining style and decorating taste, we decided to purchase a sofa and love seat first. Once we chose that we would be able to choose all the other furniture easily. Sofas are not something you should buy online because comfort is the [...]

How to choose, frame, and hang art in your home? I was called to do just that with new clients. They had just moved residences, had done quite a bit of decorating, and wanted to give the finishing touches to make the house a home. As an artist I have had much experience choosing, framing, and hanging art and I was thrilled to work on this assignment. We started with the dining room which was decorated with a neutral palette. We first looked at the art the couple owned to see what [...]

Hanging Art in a New York City Apartment

By |2018-12-19T10:34:22-05:00September 13th, 2016|Case Studies, Hallways, Wall Arrangments|

Clients recently called me to hang art in their New York City Apartment. They had quite a few pieces and didn't know where or how to begin. I came to the apartment to see what their collection was and to have a look at the layout of the apartment. This was a consultation to determine what was necessary for me to do and bring when I actually did the hanging. It also gave me a feel for what their art was and where we could hang it to display it at its best advantage. We also discussed reframing a [...]

Hanging Art Arrangements

Recently more and more of my clients have been asking me to hang art arrangements on their walls. Most have moved into new houses and don't know where to begin. They've accumulated lots of art over the years and need helping sorting through the art to decide what to keep and where to hang it. I've hung many art exhibitions over the years in galleries and museums and I feel comfortable doing this work. Usually you need another person to help  hold and hang the art, especially if there are large artworks. [...]

I was asked to design a wall unit for a living room that included a media center. The client hated what she had on the wall and directed me to an use units from an Italian modular furniture company called Presotto. She sent me various catalogs to work from. One of the most unusual and interesting furniture units was part of Presotto designlife 2014 catalog. Here's how the company describes their furniture units called InclinART. InclinART, an exclusive modular furniture system that changes the basic rules that govern furniture. Its axis becomes variable and the depths of the tops change [...]

Displaying Tchotchkes, Hanging Art and Photos

By |2018-12-19T14:34:56-05:00June 8th, 2014|Case Studies, Wall Arrangments|

Over the years I have had clients who have asked me to help them hang art, family photos and awards in their homes. As an artist I have had much experience hanging art shows in galleries and museum spaces. In addition to the regular color consulting I do, I enjoy these projects immensely. Recently a client who I helped with a color consult showed me many small sculptures and momentos she had accumulated on her travels over years. She wanted to display them but didn't know how to or where. There was a coroner [...]
